Sabi Tou Hanamusubiami Magari Basket
Sabi Tou Hanamusubiami Magari Basket
By: Junpei Kawaguchi
This rattan basket is woven with hanamasubiami, or "flower knot weave". This beautiful and advanced technique, which is like weaving together flower petals, has been passed down from one generation to the next and takes five times longer than more common zaruami weaves. Rattan, a vine of the palm family, is stronger and harder to break than woven bamboo, and the more it is used, the more beautiful the color and shine of the rattan becomes. This basket is lovely on its own, and also includes bamboo tubes for placing flowers in, to use as a floral display.
